Sunday May 10, 2020 is mothers day. It will certainly be a different mothers day for many this year!
The modern Mother's Day began in the United States, at the initiative of Anna Jarvis in the early 20th century. She did not mean for it to be commercialized and was in fact very unhappy when card companies, candy companies and more started doing just that.
Mothers Day is a day where typicaly moms are applauded for their sacrifices and dedication, some get flowers and presents or cards, some get hand made treasures and some don't. Over the years I have been the grateful recipient of all kinds of things, store bought presents, hand made crafts, home made cards and expensive store bought cards. The things that I have treasured the most are first, spending the day WITH my children, and second, the trinkets, treasures, pictures and cards that my children have made for me. I have kept most of them, in our electronic age, I have scanned many of those cards, notes and pictures and I have stored away deep in my heart the memories of smiling little faces bursting into my room in the morning to hug and kiss me.......now that my chidlren have grown and they are not all close geographically to me, I miss those days. I wish I could go back. I still gave althe little trinkets and stuffies won at the local fair "for mom".....they are worth more than diamonds and gold to me.
I have the blessing of watching my beautiful daughter navigate parenthood. She is a wonderful mom with 2 amazing babies to adore her. I love being a grandma! WHen my grand daughter sees me and exclaims "naneeeeee" my heart bursts a little.
I hope that all of you moms have some wonderful memories to carry in your hearts! I am wishing you a very happy mothers day....sending you my best. Motherhood is not for the weak or the faint of heart! You are amazing and do not ever forget that!
